Fan art - Meat Boy | Dr fetus

Hello everybody,

So today i got to work with Dr. Fetus the arch nemesis from the game, so this is how he looked:

Originally all blue (left) felt it was all blending in together so made some alteration and in the end picked the right one.

so here they are altogether:

I think the pose of the suit may be off a bit and looking at his hats a bit weird now so shall change that. however i like the colour and the outlines are way smoother than both bandage girl and meat boy.

anyways might do some finishing touches and clear things up. also need to thinnk how to put them all together. perhaps.

update: wheres my motivation gone!?

Well my new years resolution is fading away...

Well frankly for the longest time, i was in a rather "depressed" state should wee say, creatively I wasnt happy with anything I was doing to the point i barely touched a pencil/pixel in a good month or so, plus still not being able to find an employee of any sort willing to hire me in the 10 or so months since I graduated has really not helped either.

So a week ago I decided, "the only thing in my power I can do right now is try and get as i want to be at drawing" so i have spent  a good hour or so each day sketching some doodles,

This was helped somewhat by reading scott pilgrim comics which i like the style heres my attempt:

So using what i learned i decided to create 3 characters from one of my favourite games of all time Super meat Boy.

I invested in getting a new tablet my other one had broken which I didnt worry about for a while due to pixel art not really requiring the precision of a graphics tablet.

(i will still be doing pixel art ofcourse just i feel getting my basics drawing skills up to scratch will overall improve all the other creative things I have wanted to do for a long time)

So anyways yeah back to the characters

anyways so after i did these drawings i took them into photoshop

unhappy with dr fetus i did a resketch, i was happy with this until i realised the pose was all wrong.

latest sketch of him is better i think however his left hand may be sticking out too much

so here is super meat boy and bandage girl

What I Like - SMB

1. Pose looks natural
2. the colouring + shading although rather simple is rather effective.
3. the left hands pose changed for the better than what it was like in sketch ( looking straight at it) i feel this adds to his pose and personality

What i Like - BG

1. pose looks feminin and natural, i use to shy away from drawing girls as i was hopelessly bad at it
2. the bandage effects
3. Colouring + shading

what i dont like

1. the line work is rather rough ( this is due to a lack of practice with using the graphics tablet)
2. SMBs left hand with the thumbs up look odd.
3. BGs lower leg looks odd
4. more can be done to the texture of super meat boy to make him look like meat rather than just having red skin

I did the changes to bandage girls lower leg to make it look better. lengthened her thighs and fore shortened her calfs.

So, like I said Dr fetus got me into a bit of bother so dont have him digitalised yet so tune back later on to see that ( i would say tomorrow but i realise when i do that i more than likely dont get it done)

Super meat boy fan art, pixel tree update, a new HDD and portfolio feedback

Hey guys, quickly just going to show you lot a couple of things to chat about,


So first up, I got a new hdd through amazon a couple of days back so expect to see the next timelapses of the wolf run cycle soon.

secondly, being a massive fan of team meats, super meat boy game I created a piece of fan art to show my love,

Pixel tree update

next up heres a little image to see the progress on my pixel tree idea, i have been playing alot of terraria recently since the new 1.2 update so its starting to influence me a wee bit.

Lastly, you may remember me talking about 4j studios contacting me asking to see more stuff, well i didnt get the job but the lead artist David Keningale did however give me some ver good feedback on my portfolio and good words so all in all put a smile on my face despite not getting a job and has given me some much need motivation to get going and improving :) so stay tuned!

Personal Development Portfolio: Qwertee TShirt Design

Well some of you may have heard of the tshirt selling website Qwertee, where budding designers upload their designs and through voting and Qwertees judges and alot of luck their designs might eventually be printed and sold for 1-2 days.

I originally had account with Qwertee just to buy awesome designs. But yesterday I randomly just wanted to add my own design for a bit of fun, I have never really done something like this before and thought it would be interested to see what people thought of my work.

So this is what i was left with,

its a portrayal of 3 of my favourite indie games, super meat boy, Bit.Trip and VVVVVV. Two of which are pixel art games and the other has a hidden pixel art modes.

I notice commander Video has been squished when putting him on the shirt but if i am lucky and my tshirt design gets printed then you have to send them your design anyways so i can fix it for that :)
